5 Fall Events in Minnesota

The great part about fall events is that they’re often entirely outside. That means COVID-19 won’t be able to affect a lot of the fall fun. Do note that some events may have capacity restrictions, and you may need to reserve a ticket to enjoy them.

Severs Fall Festival

The Severs put on a fantastic fall festival every year, and it makes for a great family or friends weekend. Find a pumpkin, work your way through a corn maze, a petting zoo, pig races, zip lines, live music, and do so much more here. This festival has something for everyone, no matter your age or interests. Be sure to get your tickets in advance; this one will sell out fast. It’s all happening from September 11th to November 1st each weekend.

If you’re not interested in seeing the film festival in person, they’re also offering it virtually!

The Otsego Prairie Festival

This festival has tons and tons of fun stuff every year, so be sure to check it out next year when everything is hopefully back up and running.

Apple Fest 2020

Spanning three weekends from late September to mid-October, this festival is loads of traditional fall fun. You can pick your own apples and pumpkins, enjoy some live bluegrass music, and even view a cider pressing demonstration and enjoy a cup after. The Afton Apple Orchard in Hastings, MN, is just a short drive out of the cities. If you’re looking for the traditional type of fall fun, then this is sure to be the perfect fit for your family.

Family-Friendly Minnesota Fall Events + Actives

2020 isn’t the best year to find events to participate in. While there are some, you might be the type that enjoys the seasons on your own or with a close group of friends and family. If that’s you, then not to worry, there are still plenty of things to do in Minnesota throughout the fall season. Here are some of our favorites!

Visit an Apple Orchard

Minnesota is full of apple orchards and for many visiting an apple orchard is a fall tradition. Many apple orchards offer hayrides, pony rides, and other fun activities for all ages. Some apple orchards also offer baked goods and, of course, apples.

Apple orchards also offer a great place for family pictures too! Knock out those Holiday cards early this year!

Carve Pumpkins with Your Family

A pumpkin patch is another fun outing. Everyone (well, maybe just the kids) loves digging their hands into the insides of a pumpkin to remove all of the pulp. After that, you can stencil on your favorite design and work your best to carve it out perfectly. One way to make it more interesting is by having a competition between family members or friends to see who can carve the most interesting pumpkin.

Here are some fun pumpkin carving ideas for you.

Hike on the North Shore

The North Shore from Duluth to Grand Marais and beyond is a beautiful place to enjoy the fall weather. While it’s a few hours from the cities, you can make a day trip out of it without a problem. Gooseberry Falls is a beautiful stop along the scenic drive. If you get hungry, be sure to check out Betty’s Pies offers up some world-famous treats! Other notable stops are Split Rock Lighthouse and Tettegouche State Park.

Enjoy the Color Season

fall colors

From all over the country and the world, the Northern states such as Minnesota are known for the amazing display of colors that they offer. So many of the leaves on the trees throughout the state change color into bright gold, red, orange, and everything in between. These color changes cause the leaves to look incredible as you drive or hike throughout different regions. Visit this link to learn more about when you can expect them to change color.

Visit the Lakes

You probably won’t want to go swimming in any of the lakes after September because temperatures can start to drop well below 50 degrees and sometimes even below freezing. However, they still offer some of the best fishing in the midwest. If you’re not big into fishing, then sail or kayak around some of the lakes in downtown Minneapolis to enjoy the wildlife.

Check out some of the most notable restaurants located on lakes in this post. And, to see some of Minnesota’s most notable lakes, here is another post highlighting them.

Bake Cookies or Pies
