When someone says, “electric car,” one of the first things that come to mind is “Tesla.”
For years now, Elon Musk’s company has been a leader in electric car technology. What many people don’t know is that Tesla is also paving the way for energy-efficient homes.
Tesla’s Powerwall embodies everything the company has stood for since day one — eco-friendly capabilities with a modern, sleek design.
Here at Sustainable 9, we’re always looking for ways to include the latest and greatest in sustainable home technology. In fact, one of our Edina clients recently installed two Tesla Powerwalls in their home. We’ll certainly look to include more in our upcoming design and builds.
If you’re interested in learning more about the Powerwall, then keep reading as we break down its main benefits and features.
No Power, No Problem
Here in Minnesota, we certainly have our fair share of power outages — due to our fair share of thunderstorms during the humid months.
With the Tesla Powerwall, you can rest assured that even if the grid goes down, you’ll still have up to 7+ days of continuous power during the outage.
This is because Powerwall integrates seamlessly with solar to store excess energy during the day to make it available when you need it. Not only will this allow you to have power during an outage, but it allows you to minimize your reliance on traditional utilities.
However, if you don’t have solar power in your home, your Powerwall will still produce power during outages. Tesla also offers solar roof and panel technology if you are interested in adding solar technology to your home.
Powerwall automatically detects grid outages to become your home’s main source of energy.
Keep the lights on and your refrigerated food fresh for extended periods of time with Powerwall.
Simple and Compact
As mentioned, the Powerwall looks good. Leave it to Tesla to figure out a way to make a product like this cool.
The exterior is child and pet-friendly, with no hot vents or wires.
In addition, it’s water-resistant and dustproof. So whether you want to install it inside or outside, the Powerwall will be ready to handle the elements.
Did we mention that the Powerwall operates with nearly no noise, making it much quieter than your typical generator? Just another one of the small details that help make this product so special.
Control Your Energy From Your Phone
Mobile-friendly home energy tech is becoming more and more prevalent. Naturally, the Tesla Powerwall also has this feature.
If you’re ever staying late at work, simply forgot to turn off the lights, or just want to see how everything in your home is running, you can control everything from the Tesla App.
Other Important Information
Tesla recommends that most homes get two Powerwalls for their homes. Homes that are larger than 4,700 square feet are recommended to have three.
Supported applications for the Powerwall include solar self-consumption, backup power, and time-based control. Off-grid capabilities are coming soon according to Tesla’s website.
As mentioned, this home battery can be installed both inside and outside. It also can be floor or wall-mounted and you can stack up to ten Powerwalls together on the floor.
The certifications for the Powerwall include:
- North America and International Standards
- Grid Code compliant
And it’s dimensions are:
45.3” x 29.6” x 5.75”
