Craft Your Dream Kitchen: A Guide to Artisan Kitchen Design

Artisanal Elegance: Tips for Designing Your Perfect Kitchen

Crafting an artisan kitchen is no small feat. We sat down with Brittany Blunt, our Director of Interior Design, for essential insights into what to consider when crafting an artisans-level kitchen. Here are four things to consider before crafting your design.

What Makes an Artisan Kitchen – Artisan?

When it comes to elevating a kitchen to artisan status, it's not just about adding fancy features—it's about curating a space that exudes craftsmanship and luxury. An authentic artisan kitchen boasts high-end elements such as integrated appliances, expansive floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, and tasteful LED accent lighting that bathes the space in warmth.

A generously sized island adorned with opulent quartzite, paired with a statement-making hood or backsplash, along with cohesive finishes throughout, collectively elevate the kitchen to artisanal perfection," explains Brittany.

What Are The Latest High-End, Luxury Kitchen Trends?

In the ever-evolving realm of kitchen design, certain trends endure the test of time, while others get left behind. Here are a few timeless design elements that continue to define Artisan kitchens:

  • Integrated Appliances: Concealing appliances behind cabinetry creates a seamless, minimalist appearance that enhances the overall aesthetic of the space.
  • Smart Technology: The integration of advanced technology allows for automated features, offering unparalleled convenience and efficiency in daily tasks.
  • Mixed Materials: Combining various materials such as wood, metal, and stone adds depth and visual interest, creating dynamic and inviting kitchen environments.
  • Statement Lighting: Bold light fixtures serve as both functional and decorative elements, elevating the design aesthetic while also creating captivating focal points within the space.
  • Large Islands: Expansive islands not only provide ample workspace for culinary endeavors but also serve as versatile gathering areas, fostering connections and conversations in the heart of the home.
  • Customization: Tailoring designs to suit individual preferences and lifestyles ensures that each kitchen space is unique and personalized, reflecting the personality and tastes of its inhabitants.

By embracing these enduring design principles, homeowners can create kitchens that not only stand the test of time but also serve as timeless havens of style, functionality, and comfort.

Four Tips to Crafting Your Own Artisan Kitchen

Searching far and wide for expert advice on crafting your very own artisan kitchen? Look no further! We've got you covered. We recently caught up with Brittany Blunt, our Director of Interior Design, to uncover the ultimate kitchen design tips.

01. Timelessness > Trends

When designing an artisan-level kitchen, it's essential to prioritize timelessness over fleeting trends. Given that the kitchen is often the heart of the home and a space where you spend a significant amount of time, opting for timeless design elements ensures longevity, while minimizes the need for frequent remodeling, saving you both time and hassle in the long run. By investing in classic design elements that withstand the test of time, you can create a kitchen that remains stylish and functional for years to come.

02. Invest in Good Hardware

Think of hardware as the jewelry of your home; it's the finishing touch that can elevate the overall aesthetic to new heights. By allocating a larger portion of your budget to this area, you can invest in high-quality hardware that not only adds visual interest but also enhances the functionality of your space.

Whether it's sleek handles on cabinets, statement knobs on drawers, or stylish faucets, carefully selecting the right hardware can make a significant impact on the overall design scheme. Don't underestimate the power of these small details—they can truly transform your kitchen into a space that exudes sophistication and charm.

03. Brighten Up Your Lighting Selections

Lighting presents a prime opportunity for creativity and experimentation in kitchen design. By putting a larger portion of your budget towards statement pendant lights, you can elevate the ambiance and style of your space.

Eye-catching fixtures not only provide functional illumination but also serve as focal points that draw the eye and add visual interest to the room. Whether you opt for sleek modern pendants or vintage-inspired designs, thoughtful selection and placement of lighting can significantly enhance the overall aesthetic of your kitchen, creating a welcoming atmosphere for cooking, dining, and entertaining alike.

04. Don't Compromise on Countertops

When it comes to designing your artisan-level kitchen, don't underestimate the importance of countertops. These surfaces not only serve as practical workspaces but also make a significant impact on the overall aesthetic of the room. It's crucial not to compromise on quality or style when selecting countertops.

Pro Tip: Take the time to visit multiple slab yards if necessary, exploring different options until you find the perfect stone that resonates with your vision for the space. Whether you're drawn to the timeless elegance of marble, the durability of granite, or the unique character of quartz, investing in high-quality countertops will ensure that your kitchen exudes sophistication and style for years to come, advises Brittany.

Crafting Artisan Kitchens We Love

While our team has become experts in designing artisan kitchens, picking just one favorite project is tough. However, if we have to pick, two recent projects that stand out to us are the Mississippi River Valley Residence and the Theodore Wirth Residence.

The Mississippi River Valley Residence, showcased on the 2023 Summer Artisan Home Tour, boasts a remarkable kitchen. With high-end cabinetry, appliances, and exquisite countertops, it's the epitome of luxury. The Cambria waterfall island and backsplash add a touch of sophistication, while Crystal Cabinets accent lighting guides you towards the breathtaking views framed by triple-pane windows, while flooding the space with natural light.

Now, over at the Theodore Wirth Residence in Golden Valley, things are kept simple yet bold. The kitchen rocks consistent white oak and smartly hidden elements like the hood and pantry. With just two materials, it manages to make a big statement, especially next to those natural quartzite stone countertops. Plus, with an open floor plan and tons of natural light streaming in through the windows, this space just invites you in and makes you feel at home.

Time To Design!

As we continue to explore and innovate in the realm of kitchen design, these projects serve as inspiring examples of how thoughtful attention to detail and a keen eye for style can transform any space into a culinary masterpiece. Whether you're drawn to opulent luxury or understated elegance, there's no doubt that the possibilities for creating your own artisan kitchen are endless.

Now it's time for you to put these tips to good use and craft an artisan kitchen of your very own!
